One day Grandma and Grandpa rode on a big plane to a country called India. Snoopy asked to go along.
This is a picture of where India is in the world. If you started digging a hole in your back yard today and dug and dug and dug right through the middle of the earth, you would come out in India.
Here is Snoopy buckled into his airplane seat. He believes in being safe. He says the pillows make his seat extra soft and comfortable.
The doors look different. This door was made to keep the Sultan safe. He had many treasures inside and didn’t want robbers to be able to get in and steal them!
Cars are very expensive, so many people use animals to pull their wagons and carts. It is okay in India for these carts to go right down the middle of a street. Cars and trucks don’t slow down. They just go zooming right past them honking all the time. Everybody in India honks! It is a very noisy place.
Even camels are used to pull and carry things.
People used their bicycles like trucks to carry heavy things.
In India, they make rugs by hand. Snoopy is sending a rug home to Bountiful for you to see. We will walk on it together.
This man cuts colored rocks into tiny shapes. Then he uses the little shapes to make beautiful flower patterns in stone tables and vases. Sometimes his fingers bleed because he has to hold them so close to the spinning wheel. He gave Snoopy a little elephant so you can see how little he cuts the rocks and how they are glued together to make beautiful patterns. The Taj Mahal has walls covered with these stone designs.
Old buildings in India are very beautiful. Instead of curtains or blinds, the rich people used carved stone to cover their windows. That way cool breezes would blow inside and keep their rooms cool.
When it was really hot, Snoopy rested in a stone carving so the cool breezes would make him feel better.
Shhhhhhh. . . Snoopy is taking a nap on a hot afternoon.
Snoopy is being very SILLY. He wants to know if you can find him hiding on this gate in front of the President’s House?
Snoopy tried to make a new friend in India. He didn’t know that you have to be very careful around monkeys. They have sharp teeth and they will bite, so Grandma quickly put him back in her pocket to keep him safe.
Goodbye from Grandma and Grandpa. It’s time to go back to Hong Kong.
